Insane Office Escape 2

About a year and a half ago, there was a very cool short film called Insane Office Escape that eluded our attention for one reason or another. Directed by Ilya Naishuller, it was basically a three-minute action short shot with a first-person POV style. It was a very intricately conceived and meticulously crafted piece of work which also acted as a music video for the band Biting Elbows. Now the director is back with a second music video for the band’s song Bad Motherfucker, but the short could also simply be called Insane Office Escape 2, and it certainly ups the ante with the action, and begs for Hollywood to pay attention. Watch it!

This is a far more impressive version of what Doom tried to do with the video game first-person shooter style, but failed spectacularly. Director Marc Webb used the first-person trick sparingly in The Amazing Spider-Man, and I wish he would have done more, especially with the 3D effects. Maybe Hollywood should get wise to this style and put some of the regular found footage movies on the backburner or retool them to be shot like this. The same issues will exist for viewers who get motion sickness, but this would at least be something new and interesting on the big screen. Would you watch a movie in this POV style?
