Insanity of Foreign Movie Posters: From ‘Big Lebowski’ to ‘Apes’
Ever feel like American movie posters are a watered down lost art? They often are, especially when compared to their foreign counterparts.
Mental Floss, for one, prefers the design of international one-sheets to the stateside variety. "Movies, it’s often said, are a universal language," they write. "Movie posters, however, not so much."
Mental Floss showcases fourteen posters to show that "what entices American audiences, what gets our hearts racing in anticipation for a film event, doesn’t always play in parts elsewhere." In order to "appeal to foreign audiences in their specific cultural milieu," they argue, "poster artists turn to the one truly universal language: insanity."
